Our Journey with Farmrio: A Partnership That Defined Us

Time flies. Our story with Farmrio began in 2018 when the director approached me with a new vision: to bring Farmrio to the global market. “Hayley,” she said, “would you be interested in becoming Farmrio’s founding global supplier in China?” Built on a foundation of existing trust, my answer was an immediate and unwavering “Yes.”

I still remember our first collection for SS19—201 styles built around Farmrio’s signature engineered prints. That debut line featured predominantly 100% silk, with 99% of the styles in digital print. We launched with bulk orders of 150 pieces per color, per style, supporting the exciting opening of Farmrio’s first store in Soho, New York.

We learned immensely from each other and have grown together ever since. This journey, of course, came with significant challenges that shaped who we are today:

The First Test: Quality in Detail. Shortly after the Soho launch, we faced an issue with hand-sewn, artisanal buttons. I was in New York at the time and immediately mobilized every contact I had worldwide. Within just three days, we assembled a team to repair every single garment in the warehouse, piece by piece. This experience was pivotal. It drove us to overhaul our quality control, cementing our commitment to becoming a true high-end women’s wear manufacturer.

Adapting to Trade Shifts. In 2019, the U.S. increased tariffs on goods from China by 15%. In response, we adapted our business model from FOB to DDP to ensure a seamless process for our partner.
Navigating Global Crisis. The COVID-19 pandemic presented our greatest trial. The buying director called me with a stark reality: “Hayley, if you can’t help, Farmrio may face big problem.”

As their largest supplier, we were asked for a critical discount, which I agreed to. The true challenge, however, was logistical. Air freight costs, originally quoted at RMB 22/kg, skyrocketed to an unprecedented RMB 120/kg due to limited flights. We absorbed this shock to keep the partnership and the business moving.
Evolving with the Market. With U.S. duties later peaking at levels as high as 170%, we made another strategic shift. In 2025, we transitioned our terms back to FOB, ensuring long-term sustainability for both parties.
Our story continues. We are deeply grateful to Farmrio for guiding us to new levels of professionalism in the high-end fashion industry. Through this collaboration, we have mastered complex techniques like placement printing and built a skilled artisan team specializing in hand-beading, tassels, and crochet.
